A gorgeous antique oil painting of children and ferrets in a rural setting.
There are two smaller children with their backs turned on the painting, looking at the ferrets which are being displayed by an older child / adolescent.
It appears he has been taking the ferrets to catch animals, a popular pastime in the hunting world in England in the Victorian era.
It is a Victorian era oil painting, late 19th century, undated but signed in the lower corner, signature is in script but visible.
The painting is an oil on board and comes in a magnificent, deep gilt wood and gesso picture frame, glazed, no paper backing and a new cord has been attached for hanging.
Lots and lots of detail, a very well done piece.
Good condition overall, some losses to the frame in areas, see photos, no backing paper.
