An extremely beautiful antique, Victorian sterling silver buckle bangle with additional aesthetic engraving either side of the big chunky buckle.
Beading to the top and bottom of the bangle and on the belt section, it has the original safety chain attached.
It is a wide and chunky bangle with a nice weight to it, very well crafted with a full set of hallmarks, it is hallmarked for Birmingham 1884, maker is Reginald Walter Hewett.
The buckle was given as a symbol of love, bound to your love and ivy symbolising everlasting, so the giver was romantically saying that I am bound by your love eternally.
Buckles also represented keeping the wearer safe and secure, giving strength and protection.
1.5" width/ height, 8" circumference, weight 31 grams and 2.5" diameter.
Overall condition is good some patina, a couple of tiny dings.
