A gorgeous antique ladies, Edwardian era frock coat.
It is made from superbly soft rich cobalt blue velvet with black satin cuffs and embroidered inner waistcoat style fastening.
It is collarless to the front with a black satin Peter pan style yoke at the back.
The cuffs have large velvet covered button detailing as does the back of the coat but one is missing from the back, there should be four.
This gorgeous frock coat has very fine embroidered piping in the black satin chest, it fastens here with concealed metal hook and eye fasteners and has one large velvet button to the front which can be fastened or left open.
The lining was a cobalt blue silk but this was so shattered and shredded it has mostly come out, attached by a thread was the original label for Phillips Hons, Ladies tailors, by Royal Warrant to Princess Christian and the Royal family.
Princess Christian was originally born Princess Helena, the daughter of Queen Victoria and Albert.
Good used condition overall, outwardly the jacket is in good shape, some signs of use and wear commensurate with age, some signs of moths but no extensive damage, missing one button at the back, the lining is completely shot, torn and removed, would need relining, the silk shreds leave silk fluff on things and the label is detached.
