A gorgeous and huge 18th century blue and white transferware mug.
It has a lovely pattern of flora with a decorative border which can also be found on the inner rim, it has chinoiserie style plants in the main design sections.
English made early transferware mug, of Staffordshire origin, the print is very pretty but also primitive at the same time with a few areas where the print overlaps.
It is a heavy and thick stoneware base with a thick top glaze, the handle is moulded and applied and has a pattern on also.
Very good condition for the age, no chips or cracks.l some age related crackle of the top glaze.
Nice rustic country feel to it, could be used as a stylish kitchen planter for some small herbs.
Likely to have been used for ale but would make the grandest coffee mug that would not require much refilling!
Approx 4" height and 4" diameter.
