A vast collection of antique surgeons tools, cased in a mahogany and brass case with ages ranging from Victorian to some pieces early 20th century, the majority of the pieces date to the late Victorian era.
This magnificent set of primitive medical instruments comes with a copper japanned scroll holder and within are the original medical certifications for the owner of the tools, he was registered a Master Surgeon in 1885 after graduating from Edinburgh University in 1883.
Such an interesting insight into the world of antique surgery and such an incredible find with the original documentation.
The tools range from pliers, cutters, picks and clamps to lead and pill holders, there is also a small brass cased magnifying glass, there are also a number of dental tools.
The materials vary from iron, steel, brass and glass, there is a thermometer but this dates from the 20's but comes contained in the original antique holder, there is age commensurate wear on some tools and ebony handles.
There is a smaller cased set of picks with the set with ebony handles.
The mahogany box is in a nice antique condition, it has a brass shield shaped cartouche on the lock but no key and is lined with blue velvet, the velvet shows wear but is still intact.
In very good antique condition, small chip to the handle as mentioned, commensurate wear.
A beautiful antique piece of medical history.
