A decorative late 19th century Egyptian tapestry runner rug or ideal as a wall hanging.
Very thick and heavy stitch in overall neutral tones with a slight frayed edging, there are muted tones of red, blue and green as highlights within the tapestry.
The scene is one of a town with buildings, men on horseback, people selling and talking and a running dog, each time you study the detail there is more to discover.
These pieces were very popular and have been recreated throughout the 20th century across Europe so it is nice to have an original.
It came from a larger collection of Egyptian and Persian tapestries and mats from the same collector.
It is not framed or mounted but would make a lovely eclectic wall hanging.
Approx 19" height and 56" width.
