A rare find and such spectacular detailing, this fine engraving by German artist Carl Müller is entitled Heilige Nacht (Holy Night), it is signed by the artist and dated 1885.
The detailing is so intricate it is almost photographic, one of the most beautiful pieces you could see, the expressions are lifelike and filled with real emotions.
The engraving has been cut and mounted into a heavy card backing with a velvet feel front and gilt edged circular rim, this is significantly worn and open on one corner so it would definitely benefit from remounting.
The backing retains it's original sticker, which is where the piece was mounted and sold; Société Anonyme Des Ateliers Souty, Paris, there is a Paris address and Leon Souty is the name of the seller.
Société Anonyme Des Ateliers or Society of anonymous artists and engravers was a movement or organisation originally formed in France by great masters such as Monet and Renoir, you can find more information on the society and their exhibitions, shows and sales by doing a Google search for the movement.
The size within the mount is 22.5" x 22.5".
A very attractive and uncommon piece shows minor age related wear with a a few tiny scratches due to being unglazed, it will also require remounting and the price reflects this, a similar piece by Carl Müller recently sold in the region of $65,000.
