An excuisite early Victorian papier mache calling card tray, this tray is highly decorative in the sumptuous black laquerware manner with gilt painted tendrils and the most beautiful hand painted floral spray inlaid with delicate sections of mother of pearl.
There are large pieces of mother of pearl throughout the design and also around the rim, the tray has a gilt brass handle with a twist design and leaf design connectors, the handle alone has the greatest attention to detail.
These pieces are without a doubt works of art on there own and this is one of the largest examples I have seen.
This tray is in very good condition for the age, there are a couple of small chips to the outer rim but other than that it is great, definitely one of the finer pieces of Victorian papier mache.
The handle has not been cleaned by us but would likely shine up to a lovely gold sheen, let us know if you would like us to clean it prior to dispatch.
