A truly beautiful piece of antique mourning jewellery in this finely crafted Victorian mourning ring.
The front circular disc is set with 4 small pearls with a black enamel background, in the centre of the pearls there is a gold ball and altogether they form a pretty forget me not flower.
The shoulders have been carefully engraved and also enamelled in black, there is a single seed pearl set into each shoulder.
The band itself is finely engraved with scrolling foliate and swags, within the band there are both quatre foil and clover shaped cut outs which reveal underneath thread through the thick decorative gold band a band of hair, plaited most of the way around.
There is so much detail and sentiment within this piece, from the forget me not to the hairwork.
The inner is engraved with Mother, Jan 24 '92.
This masterpiece of a mourning ring is fully hallmarked for 15ct gold Chester, 1891.
It is in good condition for the age the only point to mention is a small loss of enamel to the front where the flower is but this in no way detracts and could be replaced by a jeweller.
