A beautiful early 20th century Japanese rice paper parasol or Wagasa.
Made from hand painted rice paper and lacquered bamboo, with leather loop and very attractive carved detailing on the handle.
It has a woven weave so that the rice paper is strengthened, there is a metal push clip that holds the parasol open.
This pretty antique piece is in nice condition, there is a small tear to the top and it is fragile so needs to be opened with care, it has not gone through though and the weave is not torn, see photos.
Very pretty floral design on a sunshine yellow background.
Approx 24" length
Approx 34" diameter when open
