Outlines of the Life of Shakespeare, J.O Halliwell Phillips, London 1886.
In two volumes, 6th edition London - Longmans, Green and Co, both green cloth bound hardback boards with gilt lettering.
Halliwell was an avid researcher into the life of William Shakespeare, his desire was to build a library of Shakespearean history and these books were written as part of this quest.
Including drawings and engravings in each volume.
This copy is an extra special example as there is a handwritten note in the front from the author, dated and gifting to his nephew Ernest E Baker.
The book gifted to Baker by his uncle was later gifted to Bakers daughter Eileen and a second note from her father gifts the book to her in 1911.
Therefore the book is essentially double signed by Halliwell and by Baker who published works under his own and his uncles name.
A scarce book in its own right but even more rare signed by the author and to a family member of the author, this gives the pair a much richer history and significance.
A very rare find here with this book and grand opportunity to own a rare collectors piece.
The books are in good antique condition and has been very well kept, there is some age related foxing to the pages especially the end pages and a weakness to the spine more on the binding itself, some pages loosening but still in tact.
They are large and heavy books Approx 10.5" height.
