A lovely Victorian Hinks drop in oil lamp in brass with a glass shade made by the famous Hinks, Birmingham, England.
This is the Hinks 45 CP (Candle Power) Morton patent, drop in oil lamp c1890, an expert dealer in these lamps here on Ruby Lane said that it could either have gone in a banquet lamp or a hanging lamp.
Hinks were the inventors of the duplex lamp in England and patented their design in 1885.
The brand name and technology model can be found on the thumb wheel and on the filler cap, it is a two piece lamp, not designed to hold a shade, the key shaped lever allows the top to lift so that the wick can be lit.
It has an attractive gadrooned brass body / base that is weighted.
In very good antique condition, some light wear to the brass laquer and two tiny chips to the rim of the glass shade.
A beautiful antique piece in good antique condition with all original fixtures.
Would look beautiful on the patio on a mild summers evening or in the office whilst writing that late night paperwork, possibilities are endless.
