This piece dating from the 1800's Circa 1840's is a magical little piece of Victorian history.
A highly decorative repousse ormolu chatelaine clip / hook, elaborately designed with a foliate style and with a fine gilt on bronze finish.
The hook itself swivels and would be used to hang a loaded chatelaine or a pocket or fob watch.
The most amazing thing about this is that at the top of the ornamental design there is a tiny little compass fitted inside.
The compass still appears to be working!
It is in very good antique condition, it will require a chain or a clasp to fit it to a belt etc. And there is a narrow section at the back to pass this through just behind the compass.
Highly skilled craftsmanship went into the making of this little beauty, a truly unique and wonderful piece of antique English history.
