Absolutely incredible early Victorian face screens or hand fans.
This beautiful pair have detail so intricate that each time you study them you see something new.
They are an absolute work of art and show off the extravagant victorian arts perfectly.
The victorian ladies went through an obsession with birds at a time even adorning their hats with taxidermy birds, this pair of fans of course features birds, a different one on each fan.
There are two different scenes that both feature birds in a garden setting, they are made from papier mache and are carefully hand painted and lacquered.
The flowers are exceptional and almost look lifelike.
They both have a fantastic turned style handle made from gilt metal, the handles are in good condition.
Each fan has a decorative scalloped edging, the backs are plain black lacquered.
For the age they are in fantastic condition, there are two small marks on the fan with the smallest bird and both have a metal loop through at the top however this is as old as the fans / screens themselves.
Normal crackling to the back lacquered glaze but very good overall, no visible repairs.
Truly beautiful pair of antique Victorian face screens with beautiful art work.
