Very rare and collectable scientific antique here on offer.
This unusual mahogany cased compass also features a clinometer function, the compass was made by Flatters and Garnett who specialised in entomological equipment.
The aluminium dial has an upper 360 degree graduated scale for compass readings, whilst the lower scale is for the clinometer function. The attractive mahogany case features two elegant original fasteners and even an automatic needle transit lock.
Flatters and Garnett were very renowned and popular scientists of the period and their equipment and work is highly sought after.
This compass was manufactured at their Dover St address between 1906 and 1909, the original trade label can still be found inside the lid.
This item is in fantastic antique condition with the only wear that can be noted is a slight wear on the top right hand corner of the wooden case near to the hinge, this is natural wear and is substantially low for such a delicate item of this age.
A truly unique and beautiful piece of antique scientific history from renowned scientists of the time.
The compass (including the case) measures at: 7cm square and 2.3cm deep.
A very rare opportunity to own a fabulous piece.
