One of the first posthumous medals produced commemorating the Presidency of Abraham Lincoln. This heavy medal was rushed into production soon after his death using design by Swiss sculptor Hugues Bovy. Original production used this gilt bronze bezel surmounted by an eagle. Note solder scars at top from fabrication. Later pieces lack the bezel to hang the medal. Medal is approx 60mm, overall 95mm high 68mm wide. Some deformation to medal bezel. Original gilding.
