For your consideration is this figural English pen nib box and match holder measuring 2" wide, 2-1/2" long and 7/8" tall. The brass box, in the shape of a book, was made by the D.Leonardt & Co, the original patent issued on Aug. 19, 1874. Although its primary use was to hold pen nibs, my research says that the box , once empty of pen nibs, was also used to hold matches as there is a striker on both ends . Note the spine of the book shows a sample of the pen nibs. The pen nib box is in excellent condition retaining its original patina along with tarnish. The pen nibs are not the original ones made by D. Leonardt & Co. but are similar. An interesting desk accessory and conversation piece.
