This French art pottery platter and vase display the style and glazes that Elchinger’s mid-century ceramics made famous.
The 8” (20.3 cm) vase has a distinctive “looped” shape and is done in a combination of glazes - matte white and turquoise over grainy black, finished with glossy orange decor. The vase is in perfect condition except for a fleabite on the base. The platter, in matching glazes, is in the shape of an artist’s palette. It is 13 ¼” (33.7 cm) long and 10 ½” (26.7 cm) wide. The platter is also in excellent condition, with the exception of one small flake.
Both pieces are fully marked by Elchinger, but the marks are covered by dark glaze and difficult to photograph. The set is c. 1950.
