This pacing polar bear in a glossy craquele glaze was made by Wienerberger Wien (Vienna) c. 1920, when Austrian ceramics manufacture flourished. Michael Powolny, among others from the Wiener Werkstatte, designed for Weinerberger at this time. The bear has the Wienerberger mark and is probably the work of Fritz Barwig, who designed other bears for Wienerberger. The bear is 11 1/2” (29.2 cm) long, 6 ½” (16.5 cm) tall, and 4” 10.1 cm) deep. The polar bear weighs 4 pounds.
