This crackled box with enameled lid was made during the Art Deco era by the Belgian firm, Boch La Louviere, for La Maîtrise, a top Paris retailer (“Galeries Lafayette”). The enameling features Oriental-inspired stylized cloud with a cobalt blue central band. The box is about 3” (7.6 cm) tall and 5” (12.7 cm) across.
The box is in excellent condition with a few factory or age-related imperfections. The base has the round “Boch La Louvière Belgium” mark. It is signed by the artist in ink: “La Maitice” “Guiguichon” and (decor number) “D849.” It is impressed with form number 58.
The online Catteau inventory dates the piece to 1924.
