On offer is this absolutely lovely silver cigarette case. It's in really good condition overall, the silver shines up beautifully still all over.
It has a traditional rectangular cigarette case shape which has been beautifully decorated on both sides with an engine turned design and rectangular plaque to the front side engraved with three initials for John McVittie.
The hinge works as it should still and the case opens as it should. Traces of gilding are still present and the original straps are still there however will need the ends attaching/ replacing completely.
The interesting feature of this case is the inscription to the inside which reads: "Presented to John McVittie, by the Mayor of Carlisle, Alderman Tom Dobinson, in appreciation, November 1939". John McVittie being McVittie's Biscuits.
A full set of English hallmarks for Birmingham 1938 and the maker "JR" - John Rose.
It measures a charming 8.5cm (3 and 1/4 inches) in length and weighs 78.8g including the straps etc.
A charming Art Deco curio ready to be collected and enjoyed once again.
