On offer are these truly lovely antique sugar tongs/ scissors. They are in good condition overall, the silver shines up beautifully all over. There is a small finial piece missing from one of the loop handle tops and the odd surface scratch here and there but as shown in the photos nothing which detracts.
They have a traditional scissor form shape which are plain in design yet so stylish in appearance. The ends are in the form of scallop shells and there's also an engraved initial "M" with a motto around reading "Mens Sibi Conscia Recti" - Latin which translates to "A mind conscious of its rectitude".
Both handle loops are hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling 925 silver and a makers mark "H.B" - little is known about this particular maker other than when used there are no hallmarks indicating an assay office or date letter. They certainly have age though, possibly London circa 1760's.
They measures 12.5cm (5 inches) in length, weigh 38.2g and are ready to be collected and enjoyed once again.
