On offer is this unique historical tankard. It's in good condition overall, the electroplated metal shines up well still - notable are around the handle where the base brass metal is showing through; and there are numerous flaws to the enameling but as shown in the photos all adding to the aged charm and character of the piece.
It's of traditional tankard form, beautifully hand decorated all over with intricate floral patterns complete with red and white enamel highlights. It really stands out on display.
The underside has been engraved with "E. J. Farley, S.C.P.O., VJ Day, SEAC, 15-8-1945, HMS Bambara".
E J Farley - SCPO - Senior Chief Petty Officer of the - SEAC - South East Asia Command on HMS Bambara would've had this tankard purchased and engraved as a memento of VJ Day 15th August 1945 - the day the Japanese surrendered.
The tankard itself was produced in India - Benares enameling.
It measures 14cm (5 and 1/2 inches) in height and is ready to be collected and enjoyed once again!
