On offer is this lovely collectible unusual and rare sweetheart pincushion. It's in really good condition, no damage to the hand applied decorations and the colors look great still.
It's in the form of a heart and has been lovingly decorated with beads, frills, silver wire and decoupage including two beautiful love poems about loving while being so far away. It truly is utterly endearing. The central piece is for the "Border Regiment" which also features in small print "S. Africa 1899-02" and "Relf Ladysmith".
This would've been produced by a troop from the 1st Battalion (of the Border Regiment) sent out to Colenso and Spion Kop as part of the campaign to relieve Ladysmith (Ladysmith being in Natal South Africa). The Home Front contracted thousands of troops from the UK as well as Europe in an attempt to outnumber the Boers - the campaign was a success.
This cushion measures 17cm (6 and 3/4 inches) in length and is ready to be collected and enjoyed once again.
