Add some drama to your life with this spectacular 18K Lapis & Angel Skin Coral Ring. Weighing in at a remarkable 22.3 grams, this ring is sure to cause a stir.
This extraordinary ring is custom crafted in a hand hammered 18K yellow gold with free form cut cabochons of Lapis Lazuli and angelskin coral. The cabochons are uniquely crescent shaped and set in a blocked pattern. The midnight blue Lapis measures 24.5mm wide by 9.45mm tall at center and the coral measures 24mm wide by 9.45mm tall at center. The cabochons are vertically mounted in an artistic free form bezel created with a 3mm ribbon of 18K at the ring face's center. This ribbon follows a pleasing wave pattern. The entire ring face measures 26mm wide by 16mm tall and it majestically rises off the finger just over 1/2". The ring can be worn in either direction, with the lapis/coral interchangeably worn towards its lucky owner's eye or outward toward its bevy of admirers.
This thick ribbon flows down to 13mm wide ring shoulders (over 1/2"), with the base of each bezel following a wave pattern along its side. The 4.9mm thick shoulders slowly graduate down the shank to a still substantial 2.45mm thick by 6.2mm wide (1/4"). The gold features a wondrous and meticulously hammered design that emulates a natural coral reef. This hammered design follows the entire shank.
The angel skin coral exhibits the desirable uniform pale blush hue with a glossy finish. When magnified, we see a shallow pocket at the top right side close to the center gold bezel.
The Lapis Lazuli is a rich and uniform midnight blue in low and incandescent lighting. In natural daylight, its rich blue color magically transforms before your eye, as it brightens to a brilliant blue with natural variation. (See our hand photos taken in natural daylight)
The under gallery is open and is fitted with two 1/8" stabilizing bars. There are no hallmarks but the mount has been tested and is guaranteed at 18K yellow gold. The shank is currently a size 8, but it can be resized slightly up or down. The shank does show evidence of previous sizing at its base as the hammered design is slightly smoothed. However, the sizing was done very professionally in order to retain as much as possible of the jigsaw puzzle pattern. (Many times you will see this section completely smoothed out after sizing).
There are no hallmarks present, but the mount has been tested with results varying between 18K and 22K, but it is guaranteed at least 18K. This mighty ring weighs 22.3 grams, a weight not often seen today, especially in high carat gold.
We have dated this ring to the late 1960's, a time when jewelry artisans offered tremendous artistic expression in their designs. Also a time when gold prices were still fixed and relatively low. Unfortunately, that 60's beat and artistic flair quickly dissipated when gold prices were allowed to float in the early 1970's. But what grand creations the world is blessed with from this era when imagination and expression were on the cutting edge.
The condition of this spectacular ring is excellent. It is currently a size 8 US but it is still a reasonable fit without wobble on a size 6 finger without slippage, perhaps due to its wide shoulders. It can be resized or sizing beads can be added for a smaller fit without resizing.
This is a great ring. We love it!
This ring is sure to impress. It will be delivered in a lovely presentation case, perfect for gift giving and storage, along with a copy of our easy coral care instructions.
