Dreaming of an oxblood red coral ring, in the deepest of reds at an affordable price? Current market conditions have made that a challenging quest. But, take a look at this crimson beauty. Actual hue? Darker than the camera could capture, close to a fine Merlot.
Offering modernist good looks in 18K yellow gold, this ring showcases a superb specimen of natural dark oxblood red coral. This intensely hued cabochon is an oxblood red coral dreamer's delight! This is a free form cut cabochon perfectly paired with an artistic free form 18K yellow gold mount.
The entire face of the ring measures 7/8" tall by 9/16" wide (21.8x13.4mm). with its precious coral cargo measuring 17.5x11x4mm. The flowing curves of the asymmetrical 18K gold mount brings the perfect balance to the natural form of the coral itself. The ring shank features 3mm paddle shoulders that gently narrow to 2mm down to a split bypass shank. With smoothly finished points, this is not a shank left open for finishing, but rather a combination of design flair and convenience. This 18K shank is quite stiff and not flexible like one may think. It currently fits a 6.5-7 US finger but can easily be adjusted by your jeweler to a slightly smaller, slightly larger size and likely up to a size 8 if the entire span is utilized. This bypass design is extremely comfortable to wear and makes for easy on and off. The shank is hallmarked "750" and the ring weighs 5.8 grams.
Free form cut cabochons embrace the natural shape of the coral tree, following the curves of the stalks and branches themselves. They are an adventurous change up to the traditional ovals and round cuts and a nod to the natural perfection of nature itself. The intense hue of this cabochon is uniform and without any white veins or spots. There are no black enzyme markings nor inherent pits or crevasses on the finished face of the cabochon. The backside of the cabochon is smoothly polished with a few natural pits on proud display.
The deep red hue is natural and absolutely captivating. The actual hue is deeper than the photos reflect, being o deep, earthy red with brown to blue undertones. The last photo on the hand best captures the color. Do note that this photo is taken against cranberry red fabric, not Valentine red as may appear. If you can visualize a bit of blue undertone to the cabochon, you have captured the color depth of this coral. It is also very close in color to a previous sold offering, our Item NOS-16-56, 18K Corsican free form coral cabochon ring.
The color, the gloss and the size combine for a spectacular presentation on the hand. The cabochon's flat face magically engages the eye as the light dances off of it from all directions. This is a fun ring that is beautiful and comfortable while awakening the senses. It is hard for its wearer to keep her other hand from rubbing the face of this crimson "worry stone". Shouldn't all jewelry be like that?
