Embracing Mother Nature's very best...
Extraordinary quality and depth of hue abounds in this elegant 18K Corsican oxblood coral ring. You will marvel at its large free form cabochon's depth of color that keeps the eye lingering upon it like your lips to a glass of fine cabernet.
This mesmerizing ring is crafted of 18K yellow gold and oxblood red coral that was once harvested off the coast of Corsica. This variety is the deepest hued of the Precious oxblood coral varieties. With blue to brown undertones, this cabochon's color is so dark that "red" hardly seems an appropriate description, with perhaps cabernet or merlot a better descriptive term.
Carved in a Modernist free form style that follows the natural curves of the coral stalk itself, the curvaceous cabochon is seated on an open bezel bed and held securely in place with swirling 18K wires. The cabochon measures 3/4" tall by 3//8" wide (19.5x16.5mm). The face of the cabochon does not adhere to standard cabochon specifications and its thickness varies from 3/8" (9.25mm) to just under 1/4" (5.5mm). The ring mount produces a lively design that beautifully frames the natural lines of the finger while being all about the presentation of its precious cargo. With a stone this beautiful, the simplicity of the ring mount is perfect, as you and your admirers will enjoy the view of this wondrous gem from all angles.
The shoulders feature 3.2mm wide paddle prongs with the shank narrowing down to approximately 1.5mm. The ring majestically rises off the finger approximately 1/2 inch. The under gallery includes a raised bridge that allows the shank to glide easily over the knuckle. The shank measures a 6.5 US but the bridge's additional curve will allow it to likely accommodate up to a size 7. It can be resized up or down. The shank is hallmarked "750" and "* 791 NA", for 18K, makers mark registered in Napoli. The ring weighs in at 5.6 grams.
The coral is 100% natural, not dyed and not treated in any manner. The deep hue is uniform throughout with no white spots or veins. The face of the cabochon is smoothly polished and free of surface fissures. There are several small fissures at the edges near the mount that are not visible. The front side of the cabochon is polished to a high gloss. The back side of the cabochon was left in its natural finish and exhibits crevasses that sea anemones once inhabited. This is what all gem coral looks like before it begins the cut and polish process. The cabochon is seated in standard form with both pressure and clear jewelers epoxy.
The ring is in mint, unworn condition. The coral is supple and there are no use or age related chips or cracks. This ring is ready to enjoy and wear upon arrival.
