The ancient art of bead weaving is indeed fascinating and this woven Sardinian red coral bead necklace is no exception. This woven coral necklace has been recently restrung on red silk thread so it is ready to enjoy and enchant all over again.
This necklace beautifully showcases the intricate pattern used to masterfully crochet beads into thick ropes. Measuring 16-1/2 inches long, the necklace is comprised of a multitude of 5mm natural red coral beads that were woven into a 3/8" (10mm) rope. The necklace is fitted with an 800 silver vermeil clasp fitted with a 7.1mm coral button cabochon. This is an 11mm round clasp with gold vermeil finish that is chased with a six sided star design. This is a tongue and groove closure with the tongue being a 925 silver replacement, albeit a perfect and snug fit. The entire necklace weighs 31.3 grams.
The coral beads are natural and undyed and offer a rich yet warm red hue that is close to tomato red, but some may envision this as a deep salmon. Actual hue is closest to our gallery photo, taken in natural daylight. No matter how we tried our photos do not capture the coral's earthy undertones to the coral and color is not a bright and bold as may appear. This color is redder than the orange coral often used in many Victorian Period designs.
This necklace looks great with all complexions, bringing a beautiful blush to the neckline and face. These beads are round cuts carved by hand. with each slightly different, but beautifully matched in size and shape. Magnified examination exhibits the valued "fingerprint" of nature that is inherent to all genuine coral.
The art of bead crocheting is quite labor intensive, requiring nimble fingers, a keen eye and enormous allotment of time. This thick rope necklace offers extraordinary beauty and can be worn and enjoyed without worry.
It will be delivered in a lovely presentation case, perfect for gift giving and storage, along with a copy of our easy coral care instructions.
