It's all in the details...Perfection abounds in this elegant early to mid-Victorian collar necklace. Worn alone or as a partner to your favorite pendant, this beauty calls out to one and all.
This golden beauty is crafted of heavy rolled gold and measures 18 inches long by just under 1/2" thick (11.5mm). It includes both a large 3/4" wide bolt clasp from which suspends a 9mm gold vermeil ring bail for easy attachment of a favorite pendant or watch. The smooth links glide along the neckline like silk.
The high polish book chain links alternate between an ornate pierced link and a smooth link design which itself varies from front to back, allowing for the necklace to be reversible at whim. The clasp's spring release allows either end link of the necklace to be slipped off the bolt and also allows for a locket, pendant, watch or other accessory to be added directly at the bolt clasp. This particular necklace includes the original split bail mounted to the clasp, from which the original pendant once suspended. This split bail is not soldered so it is easy to attach your favorite pendant. This bail does possess the British Sterling mark but we believe this applies to the bail alone. This bail can easily be removed should you prefer to use the bolt clasp for attachment. Please let us know if we can assist. The necklace weighs 28.7 grams.
These grand antique necklaces look wonderful worn alone and can easily accommodate a variety of pendants, from antique to modern. They especially make for a beautiful presentation of large pendants and even beloved brooches with their pins run North to South through the bolt clasp. The bolt clasp itself beautifully accessorizes the chain and looks great worn in front, at side or in back. Simply a beautiful necklace that can do it all.
This necklace is in pristine condition, with no broken or missing links, and all links in beautiful operational condition. There are no dents, tears or holes in the links. The clasp is also in perfect working condition. When magnified, we see no loss of or etching/spotting in the rolled gold finish. We estimate age of this beautiful necklace at approximately 1820-1850 and, at close to 200 years old, it is still looking gorgeous.
You will love the sumptuous look and feel of this historical necklace, a beautiful antique that can be worn and enjoyed without worry.
