This beautiful 14K aquamarine and diamond ring has a lot of icy blue and gold to offer for just a little bit of green.
This pale blue aquamarine ring features an oval cut gemstone with diamond accents in a wide 14K yellow gold band. Circa mid-1970's, this ring features an oval ice blue aquamarine stone with checkerboard cut and a standard table. Lots of light play going on here. This stone measures 9.9x7.6mm, estimated at 3.0 carats. It is accented at each side with three 6 point (2.5mm) diamonds, estimated at total diamond weight of .36 carat. Total gemstone weight at 3.36cts. The ring weighs 6.3 grams.
The aquamarine is set in a standard diamond mount with four prongs as are the six diamond accents. The ring shoulders are wide at 10.2mm (7/16"). Each shoulder splits at the center with each side scored, then rejoin at a width of 6.8mm (just over 1/4") wide before narrowing down to 4mm. This band measures a size 6 US but fits more like a 5.5 due to the band width. It can easily be resized, but due to the curvature of the face, we recommend up or down no more than two sizes. We can offer resizing service for this ring, please email for more information. The band is hallmarked "14K" with a faint makers mark that is unintelligible.
Given the age of this ring, the stone is most likely Brazilian in origin and classified as a Santa Maria aquamarine. It was not until the early 1990's that mining began in Africa, Asia, Middle East and Russia. This blue gemstone is a relative of the precious emerald, as both are members of the beryl family. Aquamarines can vary in shades of very pale to deep sea blue, with this particular stone being on the pale end. This ice blue hue was difficult to capture and may appear colorless in some of our photos. This tone is eye clean with very good clarity with minimal inclusions under magnification. The checkerboard facets add incredible sparkle to the stone.
This ring is in excellent condition. There are no issues with the aquamarine or any of the six diamonds. All are secure in their settings and none of the prongs are in need of retipping. The 14K ring mount is also in very good condition.
Now we do love aquamarines around here, as there is something about their fetching blue hue with liquid crystal clarity that speaks to the eye and soul. This gorgeous ring would make a dynamite wedding band for the budget minded who put good looks above price tag. I am also an oval diamond lover, so the combination in this ring captured my heart. The size of the face of this 3 carat oval aquamarine is similar to that of a 2.5 carat diamond. So, it gives you the look of an ice blue diamond for a remarkable price.
This marvelous ring will be delivered in a lovely presentation case, perfect for gift giving and storage. Presentation is as important as the thought, so when you find the perfect gift, you needn't worry about the perfect box.
