Absolutely lovely, this vintage cameo necklace offers three carnelian shell carvings set in 800 Silver.
Circa 1930's, the hand carved cameos feature identical depictions of the young maiden or goddess who is admiring her basket of freshly picked flowers as she pauses upon marble steps. These full body carvings are quite detailed. All of the cameos are bezel set, with the largest cameo at center measuring 27x21.5mm (1-1/16" by 7/8") and the smaller, opposing cameo bezels each measure 17x13.2mm (11/16" by 9/16"). The three cameos connect with intricate loops and suspend from a thick link chain. The necklace closes with an easy to use spring clasp.
The necklace chain measures 15 inches long, with an additional 1" drop from the center cameo pendant. This is a lovely length, but a chain extender could easily achieve a longer length if desired. The necklace weighs 9.8 grams.
All is in excellent condition. All three cameos are supple and devoid of any cracks or chips. The silver bezels are tight and without dents or tears. The chain and clasp are also in excellent working order.
This cameo necklace offers a feminine motif and the carvings are very well done, all carved meticulously one at a time by hand. These smaller scale carvings are quite difficult to achieve, especially in full body depictions that require anatomical accuracy. It is amazing that the two facing smaller cameos look like mirror reflections of one another. The warm hues of the carnelian shell add significantly to this necklace's beauty against the skin.
It will be delivered in a lovely presentation case, perfect for gift giving and storage.
