"There's something about that woman". At least that's what went through my mind when I first saw this cameo ring. Its luminous green to bronze hue caught my eye with its iridescent sparkle. What I first thought was a stone or lava cameo ring was indeed an oyster shell carving set in a bold Art Deco frame. Take a look. This one is an unusual beauty.
Set in 10K yellow gold, and with a size 9 shank, most assuredly this ring was originally crafted as a gentleman's accessory. The carving is a left facing depiction of Juno, Roman goddess of marriage (Greek Hera). These carvings were often exchanged as betrothal and wedding gifts as good omens for a long and happy marriage. The cameo is mounted in a stair stepped bezel setting with wide chased shoulders that give it a very bold look. The entire face of the ring measures 5/8" tall (16mm) by 13/16" wide (21mm). The oval cameo itself measures 14x11mm (9/16" by 7/16"). The shank is hallmarked "10K" and stamped with a makers mark of "I.R.C." The ring weighs 3.9 grams.
The carving is in excellent condition and without age related smoothing. The carving was done with a raised lip rather than the typical concave shape. When magnified, we see a tiny chip at the base of the lower lip's edge. This is not visible with the naked eye. We love the glow of this cameo ring. You will also enjoy "the view" of the silky shimmer of the carving's exposed backside.
Its understated hues of green to gold to bronze go with just about everything. It can be easily sized up or down, but is current size 9 makes it easy to wear on the fore finger, middle finger or ring finger. This is a great ring.
It will be delivered in a lovely presentation case, perfect for gift giving and storage, along with a copy of our easy cameo care instructions.
