A very rare and unusual large oval satinwood box
of elegant proportions cross-banded in mahogany and
satinwood top and bottom. I have researched the net and
consulted with my London friends and have seen no equal.
I would say due to its larger size it is not a tea caddy and not a pantry box.
12 ¼” wide x 8” high x 6 ¾” deep [ front to back], Slightly offset
lock with a shield inlay. Top pull appears original. Later cloth liner.
This is a difficult box to date exactly. In all appearances it looks as
if it dates from
the late 1700’s as it resembles the tea boxes of that vintage.
