This is a Sometsuke platter hand-painted in under-glaze blue and white technique during the Meiji period (1800's) in Japan. Blue and white rimmed platter/charger with beautifully intricate peony flower design, picturesque landscape on a traditional Japanese screen. The underside of the platter is painted with a border of floral scrolls.
Excellent item for collectors of Japanese/Asian traditional pottery; fantastic housewarming gift, wedding, or anniversary present.
Condition: Excellent for age. No chips, cracks or repairs. Some small under-glazed spots and dimples original to kiln. Great patina and preservation. Item was acquired in Japan's Kyushu Island at an auction in Nagasaki prefecture.
