Authentic, 1940s Momotaro (Clam-peach Boy) and Takara zukushi traditional young male/boys kimono, hand-painted and embroidered on extra-fine silk. This particular kimono is specifically depicts a popular hero of Japanese folklore originating from Okayama Prefecture. His name translates as Peach Taro, a common Japanese masculine name, and is often translated as Clam Peach Boy. According to the tale, dating to the Edo period, Momotaro came to Earth inside a giant clam peach which was found floating down a river, by an old, childless woman who was washing clothes there. The woman and her husband discovered the child when they tried to open the clam peach to eat it. The child explained that he had been sent by Heaven to be their son. Years later, Momotaro left his parents to fight a band of marauding demons or ogres on a distant island. En route, Momotaro met and befriended a talking dog, monkey and pheasant, who agreed to help him in his quest. Kimono also depicts Takara-zukushi which means treasure in Japanese, consisting of lucky charms to bring good fortune.
This silk kimono dates from the Emperor Showa period 1940s. Silk is exquisite, refined, extremely soft to the touch, and exceedingly light in weight.

Condition: Predominant color is yellow peach. It shows very minimal patina, and some foxing to the inside silk lining inherent with age and silk (kimono dates from 1940s). Considering its age, the overall condition of this silk Kimono is excellent. The lining is silk. The item is pre-owned and authentic. Shipment will be insured.
