From the Japanese Shibuya family, silk montsuki kimono with hand-painted Shibuya castle and landscape on inside and outside of proper right and left front panels near hem. Lined with red silk in half of front panels, three-quarters of back panels and sleeve interior. Kamon (family crest) of the 11th century Shibuya family, are located center back below collar, and front chest. Unique and authentic silk crepe motifs, plain woven, with hand-painted, rice-paste resist outlining (yūzen).
This is a collectors’ item, authentic and unique. Many different factors determine prices. First: age, rarity, and condition. Second: aesthetics. Since in Japan the best kimono have always been considered textile art, kimono prices can vary as much as do prices on paintings. Thus, beautiful, rare and unique kimono command a premium.
Condition: The item is in excellent condition for age. Dates from the 1940s.
