Okobo are simple elevated sandals that consist of a block of wood from a willow tree with straps on top. Okobo are an uncommon shoe. They are primarily associated with trainee Geisha known as Maiko. Maiko follow a difficult fashion routine that includes elaborate hairstyles and kimono. Okobo make walking more difficult. However, they help Maiko to keep their long susohiki kimono and obi from dragging on the ground.
The base of these Pokkuri Koppori Geta for kimono is fabulously made of wood designed with tsuru (cranes-symbol of longevity) in raised lacquered gilt-cloisonné.
