Cha-Kaiseki is the meal served in the context of chanoyu (Japanese tea ceremony). Nimono: simmered foods, is served in individual lidded bowls. We love Japanese serving pottery for being unique. Symbolic patterns and designs always make Japanese dishes look different.
This is a truly beautiful Japanese Cha-Kaiseki set of five (5) kaiseki lidded bowls (could be used for soup, rice or even green tea serving), and five (5) lids which can be used as plates for Japanese pickles or relish.
Hand-painted, black luster over glazed, authentically handmade in a kiln in the Kyushu island of Japan; this set will last you a lifetime and, it will bring instant warmth, color and fine adornment to your home.
Kanji cartouche marks the provenance. Japanese art pottery makes an excellently elegant housewarming gift, wedding, or anniversary present.
Important note: The set was purchased in Japan where dinnerware, tea or coffee sets generally come in 5 which is a lucky number in Japan, unlike 4 which brings bad luck. You will receive 5 bowls and 5 lids which can be used as plates for Japanese pickles or relish. Total 10 items plus the original box (11).
Condition: Mint vintage. No chips or cracks. Never used. Item is sold in the same condition as found in Japan.
Each bowl measures 5 1/4 inches (13 cm) across (diagonal), stands approx. 3 1/4 inches tall (8 cm).
