A lovely find, from a recent buying trip to Belgium... a small almanac dating to 1834 from the city of Liege, Belgium. Written by mathematician Mathieu Laensbergh, it details all the saint days, deaths and births in the city, holy days, tides, predictions for the weather, sovereigns of the countries of Europe, and more.... the last section of the book is a wonderful calendar of the months, with hand block printed woodcut images representing all the months of the year, as well as information for farmers on when to cut wood, sow crop, prune trees, and even when to cut their hair and nails! The miniature book measure 3" x 3 1/2". In good condition with no missing pages - just some age related speckling. The paper is handmade, with the imperfections associated with this, and simply bound with string. A special find!
