An exquisite 19th Century French baby bonnet made entirely from ruffled, pleated silk and lace, with two large rosettes at each side (the rosettes have lace covered buttons in the centre). Amazingly, there are no marks or stains, and no damage or fragility. The silk lining is long gone, but could be reinstated if wished - the tarlatan can be seen on the inside. The bonnet is edged with handmade Valenciennes lace, and there are bands of filet lace running up the back of the bonnet and around the top. Hand stitched. Thus may also fit a larger antique doll, and would be a spectacular accessory. It measures 12" along the inside of the bonnet from ear to ear, and 9" along the back. It is ecru in colour. An exceptionally fine bonnet dating to circa 1880.
