I have been lucky enough to find a collection of 19th century silk archive samples from one of the most prestigious silk manufacturers in France - La Maison Hamot. Founded in 1762, and closed for good in 2000, La Maison Hamot produced silk for King Louis XV. Their exquisite silk fabrics were produced in Lyon, and retailed in Paris. Antique archive samples were offered for auction in Paris in 2003 after the company closed its doors in 2000, and this is where the collection I have was acquired. This is a beautiful archive sample of deep raspberry pink woven damask dating to circa 1880. Samples such as this would have been shown to prospective clients to demonstrate the designs that were then custom produced. The original label with the name of the design inscribed, is still attached. It measures approximately 23 inches x 49 inches. In excellent condition. A wonderful panel.
