Exquisite huge pair antique French Cornely whitework embroidered white cotton curtains 1880s
An absolutely stunning pair of antique French late 19th century Cornely whitework cotton curtains. These are almost impossible to find in France now - especially in such good condition. I have two pairs of the same size and design from the same chateau attic provenance. This is listing is for ONE PAIR Embroidered with a special Cornely hand worked machine, these curtains were used during the summer months, replacing the heavier winter drapes/curtains in large country houses and chateaux in France. The heavy whitework scrolling motifs are worked on a very fine lawn or muslin weight cotton, and the whitework patterns show up clearly when seen against the light. The curtains are freshly laundered and snowy white. There are a few small original darns and a few small holes, but no serious damage. The fabric is strong. The top edge is raw, so you can add the header tape of your choice to suit your windows, and also adjust the height. The inner edges and lower edges are scalloped and the edges finished with chain stitch, and the outer edges are selvedge edges. Each curtain measures 160cms (63 inches)wide and 310cms (122 inches) long. Perfect summer curtains - or for a special antique bed canopy perhaps..... I have a beautiful antique French bed canopy listed at the moment that would be perfect!
