A delicious pair of antique wedding slippers or shoes with straight soles, embellished with slightly timeworn net and silk rosettes, and the maker's label - "C. Hempstead, Ladies Shoe Manufacturer, 289 Grand Street, corner of Allen., N.Y.". The shoes are in excellent condition for their age, with just a little splitting of the silk around the edges of the leather soles. There are a few marks at the back (it looks as if this is the residue from tape, and may remove with the correct cleaner) - see last image. The insides of the shoes have no signs of wear - the inner soles are of white kid leather, and the lining is cream linen, with the number 5 written in sepia ink inside each shoe. Measured on the soles, the shoes are 26cms. long (10.2 inches) and 6cms. (2.3 inches) wide. Beautiful antique silk shoes dating to the early Victorian era - circa 1830.
