Papier mache fashion doll with glass eyes. This is very likely an early French Fashion doll, which combined kid bodies made in France with German-made papier mache heads. This lady possesses self-confidence and style. Shoulder head is papier mache with a charming plump face and original blonde mohair wig. She is on an unusual early fashion-type body with kid hips and legs, fabric upper arms, kid lower arms with bisque hands. At 20.5 inches tall (not including her bonnet), she is wearing a stunning dress with antique and vintage undergarments. She also wears a beautiful pair of bloomers trimmed with fine lace, which may be original, an old slip with wide lace trim and stockings, and a vintage dress and bonnet of quaint blue floral fabric with lots of lovely lace adornment. The black ribbons are replacements. Overall, her body is in good, sturdy condition for its age, with some discoloration on the cloth torso from a previous stand. There is a repair to the kid elbow of the left arm, and some leather patches to the hips and one knee. The head is in good condition, with some typical fading and wear to the painted finish on the face, and the blond mohair wig is clean and sturdy. No cracks, a very good sign in these papier mache dolls. As usual for these dolls, she is unmarked, and I believe she was made in the 1850's or early 1860's.
