Antique printed cloth doll, oilcloth character doll. Representing Esther Starring, the main character from "Mamma's Angel Child", a very popular comic strip begun in 1913 and continued through the 1910's, drawn by the artist Penny Ross. Esther was a much- adored prankster. In her right hand she is holding a doll by its foot. The comic strip was also known as a fashion page, due to the frocks Mr. Ross designed for "Mamma", Esther, and her friends in the comic strip. Those dresses were copied by manufacturers during the period. She is made from oilcloth, well marked, 9.5" tall. In excellent vintage condition- firm, no leaking, no cracks or dry spots to the oil cloth, no fading, no odor, no tears and no stains. These are quite rare, and she is simply wonderful!
