Small papier mache doll with painted face and sweet little dress. This size, (8 inches) and type of papier mache doll is rarely seen, as they were manufactured in between the end of production for papier mache dolls and the burgeoning popularity of composition dolls, as inexpensive playthings. Although this doll is in excellent condition, with only minor wear and dirt on feet and arms, her sisters were not so lucky. She is somewhat roughly made, with a crinoline body and excelsior stuffing. Her face shows some pitting from the factory, but her painted face is so wonderful and dolly-like that she is very endearing. At eight inches, she is the perfect doll's doll. With a brown, wavy mohair wig, glued on, Wearing knickers and dress that are not original but suit her perfectly. Stamped Germany on the back of her shoulder plate. Last photo shows her in the arms of a Schoenhau and Hoffmeister doll in my shop. Not listed online but available.
