Antique Patent Washable Papier Mache Doll, 31 inches of cheerful innocence. Only a few of these dolls escaped having their face washed and establishing that their sales pitch was, at best misleading. This one is no exception and is a wonderful example of these dolls, emitting a slightly wacky happiness wherever she sits. Typical uneven complexion due to finish being washed, big blue glass eyes, and a delightfully painted mouth. This is a replacement human hair wig that suits her. Her face has no cracks. A classic Patent Washable body, with characteristic short arms, long torso and long legs. Her arms have repaint/ repair, her body and legs some patches, but overall this is in very good condition. Sewn on faux leather boots are in fine shape, topped with fishnet style stockings added later.
Someone took much care in making a charming dress for her in empire style, with a scalloped, faced hem, finished with a wide velvet ribbon at her waist. Underneath she wears antique underclothing; knickers and a long, beautiful lace trimmed petticoat. She is really charming, reasonably priced and will be an enthusiastic member of your collection. These dolls were almost always unmarked, as is this one. Made in Sonneberg, certainly ; more than one company manufactured these dolls, and this is possibly made by Schilling.
