Antique china head modified flattop doll, 19 inches. A pretty blonde lady on her original body and legs with replaced upper and lower arms. She has delightful leather over fabric boots, shaped as though they are in an R. Crumb comic strip! Printed striped socks, a feature I enjoy. Her clothing is likely original, of homespun, a fitted jacket and skirt over a long chemise with a flounce, and knickers. Cannot get the knickers over her knees, so forgive the indignity. A lace shawl and a bonnet complete her ladylike and tidy appearance. The Hertwig stamp is incised on the back: 6 / Pat / Dec. 7/ 80, indicating likely produced for the New York importing firm of Bawo and Dotter., circa late 1880's. No cracks or hairlines but there are some scratches on her left cheek. Much presence and quiet charm.
