Unusual cloth folk art doll with fabulous shoes and wonderful clothing. 17.5 inches tall, made of a cotton twill that has darkened with age, she has embroidered features, delineated fingers, all original clothing . A dress of two tones of red cotton, fading at bottom front, with vegetable ivory buttons down the back. Underneath there's a petticoat, knickers with a chemise, brown cotton socks. She also wears along necklace of metal seed beads. I am not removing her clothing due to its tightness and frailty, but aside from showing age, it is in good condition. Her body, as much as I have seen, shows a few minor repairs, but no leaks. ( I undressed her when I put her in my shop and I decided not to strain the buttonholes when I took her photos.) Her human hair wig was added at some time in the past: it is not original. Her silk hat shows some melting in the front. Those shoes have just got to be seen to be believed: couched metallic threads and beading, very high wooden heels. You can just see this lady sashaying around, and I would love to speak with her. She is a real find, as far as I'm concerned- character, history and a mysterious provenance that adds up to a work of art that will have everyone talking about her.
