12 inch Delightful Character girl, a true sweetheart from Schoenhau and Hoffmeister. This cabinet sized girl is that irresistible someone you have to meet: dark brown soulful sleep eyes, lovely blushed cheeks, a determined little chin, open mouth with upper teeth. Her bisque socket head, with original wig, is on a composition body. Her bisque has no flaws, but there are factory firing cracks at the corners of her mouth- the camera pointed them out, thank you very much, but they are not seen easily under normal viewing. Her body- does it remind you of something? Yes, that’s right, this doll must have been made during the Kewpie craze, dating her to the 1910’s or a little later. Her hands, almost starfish-like, have touchups, as does the area around her head socket, and one foot has been repaired, not particularly well, but it still fits into her original socks and shoes. Otherwise, the composition is in very good condition. Her eye rocker is slightly out of alignment, can likely be adjusted by a knowledgeable person, if not, it is only intermittently noticeable.
Her clothing is factory original ( black ribbon inside trim has been replaced). Schoenhau and Hoffmeister was one of the few factories that made and dressed their own dolls; their clothing was always imaginative and attractive. This dress, of pink dotted Swiss, also has the underwear and petticoat all in one with the dress, fitting perfectly. The collar trimmed with lace fits under the dress separately. Marked S / [PB in a star] ( Porzellanfabrik Burggrub) / H / 3/0 / Germany. A remarkably engaging little girl.
